1.1 What is Agility, and why does it matter in operations?

● In high-reliability organizations (HRO) such as power plants, operational outcomes depend on frontline employees' judgment, not just mechanical compliance with procedure.

● System safety depends on frontline employees' ability to recognize and respond to abnormal situations, not just on compliance with SOPs (Roberts and Bea 2001).

● Mindful organizing: Staying alert to small warning signs to prevent major incidents.

The state of "mindful organizing" is sustained through 5 principles (Weick et al. 1999):

1.2 Agility as an individual-level adaptive capability

At the individual level, Agility is expressed through three key adaptive behaviors in this program (Pulakos et al. 2000).
